Amir Khan on Mayweather Jr: “I have got the speed and ability that can cope with him.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his team had already mentioned Amir Khan on a few occasions, and since the fight would outsell most others, I would imagine Floyd will follow up and try to make it happen at MGM Grand Garden Arena inLas Vegas.

I imagine the fight will not be taking place in September for a few reasons, but May 2014 sounds like a good date for such an event.

“It seems the fights at light- welterweight with Garcia and Peterson are not getting made. I am not going to wait around for them because one day they will move up. I could be one fight away from the Mayweather fight as long as things go to plan,” said Khan in a recent interview.

I would imagine that his is not completely incorrect in his assumption, and if he performs well in his next bout, Mayweather Promotions would love to cash in on the British fans. While there are a few decent money fights out there, there aren’t many great ones for Mayweather Jr. Amir Khan happens to be his best opponent at this time, and being that Khan can offer a great payday, Floyd might want to pursue this idea.

“Floyd didn’t show one bit that he is ageing against Guerrero. His movement is still amazing and technically he was superb. To beat Floyd you have to beat him at his home game — box him the way he fights. I have got the speed and ability that can cope with him,” reasoned Khan.

This sounds like another promise from yet another opponent, suggesting that they know how to beat Mayweather Jr. and have the perfect game-plan in mind. Don’t get me wrong, I think that stylistically Khan is one of those fighters who could potentially stay and box from the outside, and is probably quick enough to land some counter punches.

The question is whether he can land something of value and whether his defense will be good enough to prevent Floyd from going to work once he learns Khan’s mistakes in the ring.

In any case, I believe that it would be an easy fight to pay the PPV fees for, and the promotional work leading up to it would be phenomenal.
