“I want Paulie Maignaggi to defend his welterweight title successfully on the 20th, so we can fight in
The Battle of Brooklyn for his 147-pound world championship soon after. Wouldn’t that be great?”, “I’m excited.
If I wasn’t fighting on the card there is no way I would not be there.
I know I’ll be seeing lots of my friends in the crowd a week from Saturday. They always give me such generous support.”

mitriy “The Star of David” Salita returns to the ring as part of
“Brooklyn Pride;” the return of world championship boxing to Brooklyn,
NY on October 20th at the new Barclays Center.

Salita is again looking to put himself in world title contention with a
win. “Three of the four world title fights on the show will be at or
near my weight. I am excited to be on the show, and I look forward to
making a statement in my home town.  I intend to give the fans a world
class performance.

I have had many fights in New York as a pro and even fought in
Brooklyn, but this will truly be a special and historic event that will
forever remain in the hearts and minds of everyone.”

One of the four world title fights featured on the show will be a
title defense by WBA World Welterweight Champion, Brooklyn’s own, Paul
“The Magic Man” Malignaggi and in the main event, future Hall of Famer
Erik Morales will challenge Danny Garcia for his WBA Super World Light
welterweight and WBC Light welterweight belts.

“There are a few fighters on the show that I would love to challenge,
with Malignaggi among them,” said Salita.  “That is extra motivation
for me, as it is just to fight on the same show with these great
fighters.”

This will be Salita’s fifth fight, since his try for the world light
welterweight title.  He is on a four fight winning streak, two by
knockout.  He was expected to fight for the WBA Interim belt earlier in
the year but that fight fell though, so Dmitriy returned to the ring
August 4th scoring an impressive fourth round TKO over tough, battle
tested veteran, Roberto Venezuela.

Dmitriy set up training camp in Detroit’s famed Kronk Gym and is
undergoing a tough training regimen that includes sparring sessions
with the best sparring partners, something for which the Kronk Gym is
internationally known.

“There are many world class fighters here from all over the world and
that creates a great motivating atmosphere for a boxer to be in.  I
have trained often in Detroit over the last two years and it has
definitely improved me in many ways.”

Salita is hot on the trail of another title opportunity.  He has been
training and fighting with an eye on top of the welterweight division
and the boxers who currently hold the belts.  He is very confident, and
fully intends to extend his winning streak when he steps into the ring
at the Barclays Center.
