Ross Greenburg has stepped down as president of HBO Sports. Greenburg had been with HBO for 33 years, and in charge of the the cable channel’s sports programming for more than a decade.

Greenburg, 56, said he’s been thinking of leaving for several months and decided not to renew his contract. He also says the pressure at the network began to wear on him, especially boxing negotiations.

Greenburg has denied allegations that he lost his job because of the Manny Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley fight on May 7th, which aired on Showtime, not HBO.

Greenburg created several sports shows on HBO, including “24/7”. 
His  last major project is an upcoming documentary of Yankees star Derek Jeter’s road to 3,000 hits.
