Donaire Hints That Marquez Might Have Used PEDs

When Juan Manuel Marquez knocked out Manny Pacquiao, most boxing fans were impressed and of course shocked by what they had witnessed. Some fans on the other hand, pointed to how unusually buff Marquez looked, and labeled him as a PED user.

In a recent interview, while stating that he is not taking anything away from Marquez and his impressive victory, Nonito Donaire claimed that it is unlikely that Marquez had achieved his muscle mass in a natural fashion:

“Just look at the situation differently. You can achieve his body by training and hard work but let me put it this way, I’m 30 and I can barely put a muscle on and I work hard. There is a suspicion, but I’m not accusing anyone of anything,” mentioned Donaire.

Of course he is directly accusing Marquez, but so are many other boxing fans, fighters, and other various sources. Donaire is a tremendous boxer, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he works incredibly hard to get to where he is today. But there is the element of genetics, which is different for every single one of us. The fact that Donaire is unable to gain much weight while Marquez can, does not have to equate to any PEDs or any kind of inorganic assistance, but could instead be simply genes.

Some people have an easy time putting on weight, while other overeat and use weight gainers with no luck. I can understand why Marquez is being labeled as a possible used of illegal doping, but in reality, it can be a lot more simple and harmless than that.

Do you think that a certain degree of muscle mass gain points to usage of doping?
