At Manchester, England (AWE): Carl Froch vs. George Groves, 12 rounds, for Froch’s IBF/WBA “regular” super middleweight title; Scott Quigg vs. Diego Silva, 12 rounds, for Quigg’s WBA “regular” junior featherweight title.
UK boxing expert Ben Doughty suggests that it is Groves, not Froch, with it all to do & claims that The Cobra is on the slide are, for the time being, completely without credible substance. On the face of Groves’ 19 fight professional career, including one highly contentious decision victory over James DeGale it does seem a colossal step up in class for the IBF’s mandatory challenger to Carl Froch hard-won title. The 25 year old Londoner picked up the lightly regarded WBA Inter-Continental super middleweight title against Uruguay’s unheralded Noe Gonzalez Alcoba in his previous bout.
There does though appear some sort of bizarre groundswell of thinking that Groves is in with a very good shot tonight & that he “has the style to beat Froch” is something a fair few have uttered in the months & weeks leading up to this poor man’s Benn vs Eubank.
