Reaction To Maidana Coming To Oxnard by Raymond Sanchez

Its not everyday a current world champion leaves his trainer to join another, but when the new trainer is producing the type of results Robert Garcia has been, it begins to make more sense.  Current WBA world champion Marcos Maidana announced today that he would be joining forces with Ring Magazine’s 2011 Trainer of the Year, Robert Garcia.

Maybe, Team Maidana weren’t happy with their lack of effectiveness against Devon Alexander. Alexander, who won a unanimous decision against Maidana, was able to clinch throughout the contest (both debuting at welter weight) and dominated the ten round fight. As the fight progressed, Maidana was clearly frustrated as he wasn’t able to be effective in close. Some of the best inside fighters come from the Garcia stable (Rios, Margarito) so from the outside it seems to be a perfect fit if Maidana plans to expand his game.  One of the hardest pound for pound punchers in the sport of boxing, with the inside game of a Garcia fighter will pose a threat for anyone in the junior welter weight division, where Maidana plans to stay and defend his title.

With all the talent at Robert Garcia’s gym, the sparring sessions are sure to be legendary, and the results of the work should be a treat for all boxing fans.
