Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin on August 31, 2013!

Recently, Vladimir Hrunov of Hrunov Promotions had won the purse bid for the Klitschko vs. Povetkin bout, offering $23,233,330.

In response to this bid, Berndt Boente, Wladimir Klitschko’s manager, said the following:

“This is an absurd number. I will believe it only after the delivery of the money to the bank account. We will not agree to the payout after the fight.”

I agree that this number is hard to believe, especially when it’s three times higher than the previous highest offer. Still, there are a lot of wealthy people in Russia, and if this fight takes place in Moscow, which is the primary plan, the arena will be sold out at very high ticket prices.

Despite Boente’s disbelief, I think that the sum is real, as a 10% down payment was already made by Hrunov Promotions.

“Andrey Ryabinskiy (vice president of the Russian federation of professional boxing as well as the main sponsor of this fight) had his own plan, his personal budget, and it worked. When we are talking about serious business, its never absurd. It is a dream that we both made come true, and everyone understands this. And we have no doubts, that’s this fight will yield great profits. It will take place in Moscow, on the biggest stadium of the capital,” stated Hrunov.

I think that this is as solid as the plan has ever gotten. The purse bid won, down-payment made, and the venue already selected. Of course K2 promotions will most likely have issued with various aspects of the contract, but there is only so much that they can protest before things start looking ridiculous.

I am not sure when this fight would take place, but I am assuming that if Wladimir beats Francesco Pianeta and Povetkin takes the win over Wawrzyk, an official announcement will be made. As a matter of fact, the fight is already posted on BoxRec.com for August 31, 2013.
