Young Brazilian Boxer Killed By Police

Brazilian police say the country’s most promising young boxer is shot dead. The Brazilian Boxing Federation says Tairone Silva, 16, was shot on Friday after an argument with a police officer.

At this point, it’s unclear what lead to the argument, but local media reports that the officer shot the teen in self-defense. According to the Associated Press, the federation said  ”Brazil has lost another promising athlete who dreamed of becoming a great boxer and participating in the 2016 Olympics” in Rio de Janeiro.

Silva was the Brazilian champion in his age range last year and in February won an international title in an event in Chile.

The officer is being investigated.
